Yo La Tengo release Eight Candles as their latest Hanukkah-themed song

Yo La Tengo have released a song, Eight Candles, that is the band’s Hanukkah contribution for the year. The track is featured in the new holiday compilation Hanukkah+ and was written by the band’s friend, Sam Elwitt.
Hanukkah+ was partly inspired by Yo La Tengo’s annual eight-night concert run Hanukkah Run, and came together with the help of Randy Poster, who was another old friend of the band.
“When our old friend Randy Poster asked us to contribute to an album of Hanukkah songs he was putting together, we were kind of stumped,” said Yo La Tengo in a statement. “We thought maybe another friend, Sam Elwitt, could crack the code, and we think he did a fantastic job with his composition Eight Candles.”
Hanukkah+ also features songs by The Flaming Lips, Adam Green, Jack Black and more. HAIM’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s If It Be Your Will is also included in the holiday album.
Hanukkah+ will be released on 22 November via Verve Forecast, while Yo La Tengo’s annual Hanukkah Run will once again take place at New York’s Bowery Ballroom between 22 and 28 December. Tickets for Hanukkah Run can be bought here.
