Ashdown to debut guitar range at Winter NAMM

The UK’s Ashdown Engineering promises to have one of the busiest booths at Winter NAMM this year with a plethora of new product launches planned, perhaps the most unexpected being a brand new range of guitar amplification.

Ashdown has dubbed the new models the AGM (Ashdown Guitar Magnifier) range and says it has has been: ‘…created to full fill the need for Quality Amplification that has the versatility demanded by today’s players whilst retaining the reliability of products of yesteryear. Tonally the range is versatile, being suitable for use “as is” for Genuine Tube tones or in combination with the vast array of pedals available today for more variations’.

Ashdown’s long-serving designer Dave Green says: ‘Anything I have had a hand in is designed from the outset to repairable should the need ever arise, as with the bass amplifiers the products are built from discrete components with almost all the active components socket mounted for an easy fix. In the case of the new AGM range just look inside, all the parts from quality manufacturers, are over specified to enable them to perform for a design life of over 15 years. I believe consumers still aspire to purchase top quality long lasting products with a high residual resale value. Quality never goes out of fashion but it does have to be affordable and the AGM range manages to combine these two conflicting requirements effectively.’

The rage kicks off with a 30 Watt 484H offset head which features ECC83s in the pre-amp stage and four EL84 valves in the power amp. The unit features a valve driven and recovered effects loop and is housed in a small all-steel case.

The AGM range carries on to feature combos in various formats and configurations including a 6 x EL84 45W 1 x 12 (Celestion Greenback) combo, a 4 x EL84 30w Head, a 2x El 84 15W 1 x 12 (Creamback) combo and a 5 Watt 1×12 practice combo sporting both a single ECC83 and an EL84.

Matching cabs are also offered in the AGM range and will feature UK made Celestion speakers in plywood enclosures.

Other new product releases from Ashdown are destined for the show, including a raft of new bass products, headphone pre-amps and FX pedals.
