Jim Wilmer – Obituary
Music Instrument News is sad to advise the passing of Jim Wilmer, who died on 5 March 2021 after a period of poor health.
Jim was well-known and a popular figure throughout the music instrument and equipment community, through his many friends and contacts during a successful career in music equipment retail.
Jim’s career in the music equipment business began in 1984 when he overheard a conversation in his local Sound City shop advising that Rose Morris – now Korg UK – were looking for staff. Jim applied, and was appointed to the role.
Jim’s skills within the sector were quickly noticed, and he eventually rose to the position of Marketing Manager at Rose Morris.
Around the same time, Jim created his own company, Cotswold Music, where he enjoyed a highly successful involvement with the Sessionette Amplifier range.
In 1994 Jim once again received appreciation for his abilities, being appointed as the South West Area Sales Executive for Marshall Amplification.
Jim remained at Marshall until he joined Calrec, where he was involved in the sales of their sound consoles to radio stations, which eventually led to his relocation to New Jersey in the US.
In 2008 Jim joined D & M Holdings, a large company overseeing the retail of a number of major audio and visual brands.
A final career move came when Jim relaunched his Cotswold Music Company, where he remained until his passing last month.
Jim Wilmer is survived by his wife and two sons, and will be remembered by all who knew him as a wonderful ambassador for our industry.
Music Instrument News extends sincere condolences to Jim’s family, and his many friends throughout the world of music and sound.
