NAMM 2019:Washburn introduces Bella Tono Series

Calling it ‘the next great advance in the brand’s long history of meaningful innovation’, Washburn has used Winter NAMM to introduce its new Bella Tono Studio Series, featuring an all new “Studio” sized body that is claimed to offer a full body tone despite its smaller body size.

The Bella Tono Novo S9, the initial offering in the Bella Tono line, features a high gloss Charcoal-Burst spruce top and figured walnut back and sides. The maker claims that the new Washburn “Studio” body design makes for an incredibly comfortable playing experience while managing to maintain the tight lows, focused mids and clear highs commonly associated with larger body sizes.

At first glance, the Bella Tono Vite S9V is an obvious pairing to the Novo, boasting the same high gloss Charcoal-Bust spruce top and figured walnut back and sides. The Vite differs however in its cutaway body design, the Barcus Berry LX4 pickup system and an exotic-wood vine inlaid ebony fingerboard. It does features the new Washburn “Studio” body design though. Its full 25 ½” scale length will be familiar to most players and the satin finished, modern “C” profile of the okoume neck is said to be ‘smooth and cosy feeling in the hands’.

The Bella Tono Elegante S24S features a solid spruce top and pau ferro back and sides pairing. The soundboard is adorned with abalone for both the rosette and purfling which is further accented with a rich padauk highlight and ebony binding. The ebony fingerboard continues with the abalone appointments; depicting an inlaid scene of mountains and birds of flight.

The flagship offering in the Bella Tono series is the Allure SC56S This model features a solid spruce top, acacia back and side and a cutaway body design for easy access to the upper frets. The soundboard is adorned with abalone for both the rosette and purfling and is bound in maple. The ebony fingerboard continues with the lush appointments, depicting a beach island scene of a palm tree and birds of flight which are inlaid in abalone and turquoise. The guitar also features a comfort arm rest. With a full 25 ½” scale length and a satin finished, modern “C” profile on its mahogany neck, the guitar comes equipped with a Barcus Berry LX4 pickup system.

The UK distributor, Sound Technology, says it anticpates receiving Bella Tono Nova models in the second quarter of this year and expects RRPs to range from £169 for the base model to £489 for the Allure SC56S
