Mapex Drums Thrilled to Welcome Luis Hernandez to their Artist Roster

Mapex Drums proudly announces the addition of Luis Hernandez to their distinguished artist roster. With a rich background in music and performance, Luis brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Mapex. Henry Go, Mapex’s Artist Relations Representative reflects, “I’m thrilled to officially welcome Luis to the Mapex family, it’s an honor to have him.”

Luis has toured as Ricky Martin’s drum technician, and worked on the David Letterman Show, the Today Show, and much more. He began studying music at the age of twenty-one and was quick to master his craft. Luis studied drums and percussion under Freddy Santiago (Chaka Khan, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Chick Corea) and the late, great jazz drummer and educator Jim Chapin. Luis joined the United States military in 2002, swapping from sticks to infantry, and played in the U.S. Army 4th Division Band.

After completing his military obligation, Hernandez returned to performing as a session musician and live performer and developed his skills as a clinician. As a clinician, he prides himself on emphasizing not only technique but also imparting valuable lessons in physics, ethics, and professionalism to his students.

From studio sessions to HBO TV bumpers, Luis cover all bases with excellency and attention to detail. Luis shares his enthusiasm for joining Mapex drums, “Mapex represents the epitome of consistency, innovation, accessibility, and durability in the world of percussion.”
