Back access to Stingray pre amp?

Greetings everyone. I have had my (purchased new) 2009 Stingray HS, and always has been a great instrument. But I was not aware of a detail until I got a 2001 Standard Stingray. I was checking its Aguilar pre amp upgrade and I noticed that the access to the controls is made through the front. And in my 2009, access to controls is done from the back: Removing screws, removing plate, unattaching knobs and yanking everything from behind. Never noticed it until now, and I wonder why it was done that way. Anyone has a similar configuration for this?
