“Should I leave this mortal realm during surgery… I want you to know that you should buy the new Mclusky album”: Mclusky bassist send hilarious message from hospital bed

Damien Sayell – bassist and vocalist of Welsh post-hardcore outfit Mclusky – has shared a hilarious and oddly inspirational message on his Instagram as he faces surgery to potentially remove his appendix, which he suspects has “handed in its notice”.
The surgery lands shortly after the band officially announced their fourth studio album, The World is Still Here and So Are We, which is set for release on 9 May.

And clearly one to spot an opportunity, Sayell has encouraged fans to support his journey and recovery by pre-ordering the album and buying tickets to the band’s upcoming shows later this year.
“There is nothing more pathetic than artists leveraging personal struggles for financial gain,” he writes. “It’s desperate, transparent, embarrassing, and shameful. Rate yourself, you shouldn’t need a fucking story to help shift units!
“It makes me sick to my core. My core, including the appendix, which we suspect has handed in its notice. Yearning to escape from this meat vessel, and really, who could blame it?
“Presumably ennui caused by years of having nothing to do has made it decide to kick the shit out of me from the inside, and so it shall be evicted.”
He goes on: “Should the improbable happen and I leave this mortal realm due to complications during surgery today, I want you to know that you should buy the new Mclusky album and come to as many shows as you can, it’s what future potentially deceased me would have wanted.
“I also want you to know that although I am contradicting myself, it’s okay, we’re better than everyone and we can do whatever we want – that’s just how it works, babes!”
Inspired by Sayell’s courage and humour given his circumstances, Guitar.com would like to amplify his message.
Tickets for the band’s upcoming shows are available to buy now, and The World is Still Here and So Are We is available to preorder.
