Alex Lifeson says the pandemic has “wrecked things for a bit,” but he’s still “eager” to make more music with Geddy Lee

Guitarist Alex Lifeson has spoken about his desire to make more music with his former Rush bandmate Geddy Lee. Lifeson and Lee are the two surviving members of Rush’s core lineup, following drummer Neil Peart’s death last year.
During an interview with Make Weird Music, Lifeson spoke about how making music with Lee was delayed due to various projects after the final Rush tour in 2015: “Geddy was working on his book. We talked about getting together and doing some stuff together, but it got very, very busy for him, even after he finished writing the book – taking it on the road. So we never got a chance to sit down and start working or just having some fun together.”
The latest delay, of course, comes in the form of the global pandemic. “It’s kind of wrecked things for a bit,” Lifeson said, “but we’re both eager to get back together and kind of get back into that thing that we’ve done since we were 14 years old that we love to do. And we work really, really well together. So we’ll see what happens with that.”
In 2018 Lee and Lifeson revealed in separate interviews that there were no more plans for Rush tours. Following Peart’s death in 2020, Lee confirmed to Rolling Stone that it was the end of the band: “That’s over. I still am very proud of what we did. I don’t know what I will do again in music. And I’m sure Al doesn’t, whether it’s together, apart, or whatever. But the music of Rush is always part of us. And I would never hesitate to play one of those songs in the right context. But at the same time, you have to give respect to what the three of us with Neil did together.”
