“As soon as we made the prototype I thought, ‘This needs to exist’”: Jack Antonoff’s new signature guitar combines the charms of a Gretsch and a Fender Jazzmaster

Gretsch has teamed up with Jack Antonoff on his first-ever signature guitar, the Limited Edition Gretsch Princess Antonoff Electromatic CVT.
Inspired by two of his favourite guitars — the Gretsch Princess and Fender Jazzmaster, Antonoff’s new signature axe is a delicious blend of classic charm and modern versatility.

The guitar features a solid alder body, bolt-on “C” shaped maple neck, 25.5” scale length, a 7.25”-radius bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, and pearloid Neo-Classical Thumbnail inlays.
It is equipped with a pair of custom-wound FideliSonic single-coil pickups, and a custom control layout featuring a master volume and master tone dial, rhythm/lead switch with thumbwheel controls for neck pickup volume and tone, and a three-position pickup selector switch. Gretsch has also added a kill switch for you to get creative.
Priced at $699.99, the Jack Antonoff Signature CVT arrives in a dreamy Vintage white finish with a matching headcap. The guitar is topped with a gold plexi pickguard and truss rod cover, vintage-style tuners, and nickel hardware to match.

“I realised that there was this thing that I was trying to create that didn’t exist,” says Antonoff of his new Princess-Jazzmaster hybrid. “There is one guitar in my head and it was a literal blend of two guitars. And as soon as we made the prototype I thought ‘this needs to exist. Other people need to play this guitar.’”
“This guitar is right in the middle of everything I love about both and it’s my dream guitar,” he continues. “Feel wise, it’s really the feeling of a Princess — I can just run around the stage and throw this anywhere and my hands can go anywhere at any point. There’s nothing chunky about it. But then what I have from an electronic point of view is basically all my favourite bits of a Jazzmaster.”
“When I play a Jazzmaster I feel like it demands to be respected in a certain way. This guitar just gives me absolutely both pieces.”
To celebrate the release, Gretsch has released a 12-minute short film featuring Antonoff’s Bleachers band in a “Signature Session”, where they performed How Dare You Want More and Modern Girl.
