Fender teams with Leica to create the Andy Summers Monochrome Strat
Fender Custom Shop has launched a brand-new limited edition Stratocaster for Andy Summers, that is wrapped in a unique collage of photographs taken by the former Police guitarist.
The Andy Summers Monochrome Strat has been created in partnership with Summers and iconic high-end camera maker Leica, and the monochrome images that adorn the Strat’s body were all taken using the German firm’s photographic equipment.
The guitar was created by Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Dennis Galuszka, and in addition to the unique collage body wrap of the two-piece alder body, the Monochrome Stratocaster features a NOS urethane finish one-piece riftsawn maple neck with ’63 C neck profile, a classic 7.25-inch fingerboard radius and 21 medium-vintage frets.
The guitar also features a custom clear pickguard and backplate to show off more of the guitar’s unique finish, and in a nod to the camera that inspired the instrument, the 12th fret features the iconic Leica ‘red dot’ inlay, while the control knobs are also Leica-inspired.
Under the hood you’ll get a triumvirate of hand-wound Custom Shop ‘60s Strat pickups paired with Modified #2 wiring, plus a American Vintage synchronized tremolo, bone nut and wing string tree. You’ll also find Summers’ signature engraved onto the neckplate, and scrawled onto the front of the headstock.
As you’d expect for a limited edition Custom Shop guitar, you also get a deluxe hardshell case and a custom strap, but if you’re really looking to complete the vibe, you could also spring for the equally limited Leica M MONOCHROM “Signature” camera, which is covered in the same collage artwork as the guitar, and comes with a Fender-inspired camera strap.
Limited to just 50 worldwide, the Fender Custom Shop Monochrome Andy Summers Strat costs $12,500, which is a snip compared to the $14,995 that the Leica M MONOCHROM “Signature” camera will set you back.
