Harmony knows a thing or two about being saved from the graveyard of guitar brands gone by – as a company with a history that dates back to the late 1800’s, Harmony once went from being one of the largest guitar makers in America, to then ceasing in 1975.
Luckily, the brand was brought back to life in 2018 by Vista Musical Instruments, continuing its rich history having had models played by artists such as Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Page and The Black Keys.
Today, (14 February) Harmony has acquired the Stella brand from Westheimer Corporation. With a “shared and storied history” that spans close to a century, Vista Musical Instruments CEO Meng Ru Kuok said of the acquisition: “We are thrilled to bring the Harmony and Stella brands back together under the same roof, and are excited to honour the legacy of Stella in the years to come, just as we have done with Harmony.”
Westheimer Corporation CEO Laura Gabel added: “Stella is a name that has been steeped in musical history for over a century. We are delighted that it has been promised another chapter, and are confident in Harmony’s ability to steward the brand into the future.”
Owned by the Harmony Company from 1939 to 1973, Stella guitars earned a trusted reputation for great value and tone, and have also been played by artists such as B.B King, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Kurt Cobain, Leon Bridges, and more.
The newly announced acquisition includes Stella’s trademarks and intellectual property, and is effective immediately. More information about the future of the brand is set to be shared soon.
