HeadRush launches firmware 2.0 update for Looperboard with numerous new features
HeadRush has rolled out a major firmware 2.0 update for the Looperboard, adding to the device compatibility with external drives, 40 new DSP effects, improved looping features and a brand new user interface to boot. This latest firmware update is free to all owners of the device.
The Looperboard is now compatible with external hard drives and SD cards, increasing recording time to, well, as much storage as the drive has. This too, includes the playback of backing tracks, meaning you could store different live sets onto separate drives to better manage your physical data.
In the DSP realm, firmware 2.0 adds on 40 effects. This includes a powerful new vocal harmony and tuning effect, that lets vocalists add layers of harmony and make adjustments to their voice in real-time. Some other notable new effects include a slicer, which chops up sounds and reorganises them into a preset pattern (much like the Boss SL-20) and LFO-Sync, which engages filter sweeps based on pre-selected tempo information.
One of the major additions in firmware 2.0 is Auto-BPM detection, which can be employed to fit backing tracks or loops with unmatched BPMs with one another. This is done through what HeadRush calls an “intelligent” time-stretch, which doesn’t alter the pitch of the track. This function can also be routed to the onboard tap tempo footswitch, which could be useful to adapt loops to musicians playing on their own time.
Additionally, users can now assign the top four start/stop switches of the Looperboard as shortcuts to any onboard feature.
Finally, the firmware update presents a redesigned UI, which uses a brand-new icon-based menu screen, effects section layout and a clear cut mixer screen, with explanations on each features and looper mode.
