Ibanez unveils elements-inspired J Custom RG guitars
Ibanez Japan has unveiled a new series of J-Custom RG guitars, inspired by the elements of nature. These high-end models sport exotic tonewoods, DiMarzio pickups and eye-catching finishes – in two RG variants.
First, the JCRG2001, features an alder body with an exotic maple top, and paired to that, an Asymmetric Super Wizard five-piece maple/purpleheart neck with a bound birdseye maple fretboard with jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
This model is loaded with three DiMarzio pickups: an Air Norton humbucker in the neck, a True Velvet single-coil in the middle, and a Tone Zone in the bridge. These are controlled through two easy access volume and tone knobs – recessed into the body of a lower profile – and a five-way switching system.
Other hardware inclusions are a Lo-Pro Edge tremolo bridge, Gotoh tuners, locking nuts, strap lock pins and chrome hardware.
The JCRG2001 comes finished in either Salamandra or Undine (pictured above). The former is named for a fire spirit, and the latter is named for a water spirit.
The JCRG2002 is similar in style to the 2001, but features an African mahogany body with an exotic maple top, a three-piece neck of wenge/purpleheart and gold hardware instead. This model comes in Sylph and Gnome finishes, influenced by wind- and earth-controlling spirits of the same names.
Take a look at all four finishes in this Facebook post from Ibanez Japan.

No price tag has been attached to these RG models as of press time, but it’s worth noting that the Japanese built J-custom series tend to represent Ibanez’s high-end.
