Iggy Pop trades garage rock for heavy synths on Sonali

Iggy Pop has released Sonali, the third single from the former Stooges frontman’s upcoming album, Free.
Like the title track and previous single James Bond, Sonali strays from Pop’s iconic garage rock sound – it features heavy synths, masterful trumpeting from Leron Thomas and tasteful guitar-playing from Noveller, aka Sarah Lipstate.
In a statement earlier this year, the Godfather of Punk described Free as “an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice”. He continued: “I know that that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need – not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free”.
