Lucy Dacus covers Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark
Lucy Dacus has released a guitar-driven cover of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing In The Dark. The release is in tribute of The Boss’ and Dacus’ own father’s upcoming birthdays.
“Happy birthday to The Boss,” Dacus wrote on Twitter, “and happy birthday to my dad, the biggest Bruce fan I know.” Springsteen will celebrate his 70th birthday on 23 September. Listen to the Dancing In The Dark cover above.
Dacus’ tribute to her dad and Springsteen arrives just a few months after she released the track My Mother & I, which was recorded in celebration of Mother’s Day. Earlier in January, she covered Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose right before Valentine’s Day. And most recently, she released her new song Forever Half Mast, which commemorates the United States’ Independence Day.
The singer-songwriter’s 2019 singles will be released as a physical EP, which is due out this fall. A release date has not yet been set.
Apart from creating music, Dacus has also recently busied herself with editorial projects. Just last month, she penned her thoughts – from the viewpoint of a millennial – on Woodstock ’69 in a New York Times op-ed. “Whatever Woodstock was, I can’t speak to,” she wrote. “What it is today feels like a husk of a dream. And yet we are still drawn in by the lore, like we know the vision has yet to be fully realised, like the story isn’t over.
“The future of Woodstock rests with people who never knew it first-hand.”
