Mark Hoppus is auctioning off his Fender P-Bass for charity
Mark Hoppus is selling his custom shop Fender P-Bass up on Reverb.com in support of The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ support organisation.
The custom shop P-Bass, nicknamed ‘Groundskeeper Willie’, was used by the Blink-182 bassist on the trio’s 2003 untitled album. The striking plaid bass also sports a unicorn sticker and a pink Famous Stars and Straps keychain that Hoppus says have been there for the past decade and a half.
Hoppus’ plaid custom shop Fender P-BassAs mentioned earlier, all proceeds from the bass’ auction will go to The Trevor Project, an organisation that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. The Blink bassist has also pledged an additional $5,000 on top of the winning bid.
Mark Hoppus and Blink-182 fans will have more to look forward to than just this auction. When the auction concludes on 8 July, the Hoppus official Reverb Shop will be stocked with 80 pieces from the star’s collection. Highlights of the selection include another Fender P-bass – with custom Octopus Art – and a well-worn Ampeg SVT Classic amp which has featured in Hoppus’ live setup for close to a decade.
The 80 pieces of gear are not part of the auction, and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis.
