Megadeth bassist David Ellefson releases statement denying accusations of grooming

Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has released a statement denying allegations that he groomed an underage girl, following the leak of a recording of an explicit video call over the past few days. The woman in question has also released a statement aiming to clarify the situation, saying that any interaction was “all consensual and all online.”
Explicit videos and some screenshots of correspondence involving Ellefson had surfaced on both Instagram and Twitter. Ellefson took to social media to state that these videos and screenshots were “released with ill intention by a third party who was not authorized to have them or share them. While certainly embarrassing, I want to address it as openly and honestly as possible.”
“As much as it’s not something I’m proud of, these were private, adult interactions that were taken out of context and manipulated to inflict maximum damage to my reputation, my career and family,” he added.

His statement was shared alongside a screenshot of a statement from the woman who was apparently involved in the exchanges, which states that “yes, those video calls did happen, but I was the one to initiate them and never was I underage, I was always a consenting adult.”
“It was all consensual, I’m not a victim and I have not been groomed in the slightest as I was the one to initiate it. I was just naive enough to record him and share it with a friend without his permission.”
“I don’t know how it got to this point, but a lot of information is being left out by the people purposely trying to harm him.”
The screenshot shared is from the Instagram account @edaphosauruses, which only has two posts at the moment. Both of these are the same statement that was shared by Ellefson. A story reel at the top of the page does confirm that the account has been active for at least 74 weeks.
