Mooer doubles the Hornet’s power to 30 watts
Mooer has unveiled a new, more powerful version of its desktop modelling amplifier, the Hornet.
Previously, the amp spotted a 6.5-inch speaker and a 15-watt power section. This new version instead has an 8-inch speaker, and a 30-watt power section. Running into these, however, is a similar digital-modelling preamp, with nine amp models and three effects categories: modulation, delay and reverb. These contain three different types of each, with chorus, phaser and vibrato modulation effects, analogue, tape echo and digital delays, and room, hall and church reverb.
The amp can also work in ‘live’ or ‘preset’ mode, with the latter allowing you to store knob positions, and the former allowing you to have the controls directly reflect what the amp is doing.
The amp’s control panel features knobs for gain, treble, midrange, bass and volume, as well as controls over the three effects, tap tempo for the modulation and delay, as well as a small screen. On the amp’s face is a retro-radio-style master volume knob.
It’s important to note that doubling wattage does not double volume, as volume is (generally) logarithmically related to power. This means that to get twice as loud as any given amplifier, you need ten times the power. However, the difference will still be noticeable when it comes to the volume of the 15-watt Hornet compared to the 30-watt Hornet.
Following the introduction of the white version of the Hornet, the 30-watt version will be available in both black and white.
