Positive Grid teases the Spark 2: “Yes, it has a looper”
Positive Grid has once again set the guitar community abuzz with a teaser for their upcoming Spark 2 modelling amplifier.
The best part? It will come with a built-in looper, says the brand.

The original Spark amp revolutionised practice and recording for guitarists, and now Positive Grid is poised to take things to the next level with the Spark 2. This highly anticipated sequel builds upon the success of its predecessor while addressing one of the most requested features from users.

Like its predecessor, the Spark 2 is expected to include a wide range of amp and effects models, smart jam features, and integration with Positive Grid’s mobile app. But the addition of a looper function is what’s really generating excitement among users.
As shown from the teaser clip, the Spark 2’s control panel now features a new record/dub button. Players also get drum tracks, as well as a ‘Groove Looper’ and ‘Creative Looper’ modes.
“The evolution of the revolution is here,” reads the company’s Instagram post. “Elevate your playing sessions with Spark 2’s all-new Groove Looper; Packed with 100s of hyper-realistic drum tracks to build your ultimate jam and unlock new musical possibilities.”

While details about the looper’s specifications (e.g. looping time and number of layers) are yet to be revealed, its mere presence is enough to generate considerable interest.
For starters, users no longer have to turn to 3rd party solutions like the XSonic AIRSTEP Spark Loopy, which augments the Spark’s own smartphone interface. The inclusion of a looper also adds to the Spark’s appeal as an all-in-one solution for practice, recording, and gigs.
That said, the looper does appear to be a Spark 2-only feature — the brand cites hardware limitations as the reason the feature couldn’t be added to the original Spark — so those holding their breaths for a free firmware update on their existing unit might be disappointed.
And in true teasing fashion, Positive Grid will be revealing one new feature of the Spark 2 a day over the weekend. The amp will be unveiled in full via a livestream featuring Extreme virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt on 1 August.
