Ticket holders will have the option to roll their tickets forward to 2022’s edition or receive a refund. Details on both the refund and the 2022 lineup will be announced on 2 June.
Primavera Sound 2021 was scheduled to take place between 2 to 6 June, with the likes of Tame Impala, Pavement and Iggy Pop on the bill.
The cancellation of the festival due to force majeure was confirmed by organisers in a statement shared to Instagram yesterday (2 March).
“We tried everything,” they wrote. “But we have now made this very painful decision due to the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework for large events on the original dates of the festival.”
Organisers also stated that COVID-19 restrictions made it highly impractical for them to carry out festival preparations ahead of its intended date.
“We are really sorry for all the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. We will make it doubly good in 2022,” they added.

Primavera Pro, the festival’s industry conference, will take place in a “hybrid” capacity both online and in-person with a reduced headcount. It’s set to take place from 2 to 4 June, per Pitchfork.
Meanwhile, the Barcelona festival’s sister event, Primavera Sound Los Angeles, still has its sights set for 18 to 19 September 2021.
