The 73-year-old announced on Instagram yesterday (20 May) that he was going for “a little bit of eye surgery”, writing that the procedure would be a “piece o’ cake”. He said it would improve his “focus” and his “stereoscopic vision” – likely alluding to the stereoscopic book titles he’s released recently.

Later that same day, May made a post-procedure post to report that the surgery went well. “I really didn’t feel a thing,” he wrote. “It was all done with local anaesthetic and a tiny bit of sedation – so I was conscious throughout the whole thing – and fascinated by this amazing procedure.”
