Recording studio co-owner buys nearly every Dave Mustaine guitar in gear sale

Earlier this month, nearly 150 pieces of gear owned by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine went on sale on reverb.com, and one man snapped up all but two of the guitars on sale. That buyer, Essex Recording Studio co-owner Keith Gannon, revealed his identity and explained his huge haul in a YouTube video last week.
In the 15-minute video which you can watch above, the self-professed Megadeth fan revealed he’d bought all but two of the guitars on sale, saying he bought the axes because he wanted them “to [go] somewhere where there’ll be appreciated”.
Gannon attributed his massive score at the Reverb sale to a good amount of “preparation and planning”. He also revealed that he’d sold a car and a number of his own musical instruments to get the necessary capital, and – without going into detail – leaned on his past experience as a car dealer to help secure the guitars as soon as they went up.
The collection is housed within Gannon’s recording studio just outside of London, and will be available for use by the studio’s clients. Gannon says he also plans to make a series of videos detailing each model, outlining specs and features, and demo-ing the actual guitars.
Gannon is also inviting anyone interested in playing one of Mustaine’s guitars to drop by Essex Recording Studios though he does intend to put them all up for sale at some point. Money from reselling those guitars, Gannon said, would play “a major role in supporting the studio and our ability to give artists free time and very inexpensive time when they come and record with us”.
