In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph’s Tristram Fane Saunders, Rogers revealed that he had been re-recording the LP from scratch without the knowledge of his former bandmates. The reworked album already exists in completed form, with Saunders presented with a listen of the record in full during the interview.
Breath has been reimagined as a slow, acoustic track, while Money has developed a country tinge, Saunders reports. It was also reported that the instrumental tracks of Dark Side Of The Moon now have Rogers vocalising over them, with On The Run receiving a spoken word poem that reads: “It was a revelation, almost Patmosian whatever that means… a fight with evil, in this case an apparently all-powerful hooded and cloaked figure… it brooked no rebuttal.”
The new album will also feature multi-instrumentalist Gus Seyffert and his girlfriend Azniv Korkejian, also known as Bedouine, as well as a Baptist minister on Hammond organ.
On the topic of his estranged former bandmates, Waters proclaimed that the album was his to do with as he saw fit, telling the interviewer, “I wrote The Dark Side of the Moon. Let’s get rid of all this ‘we’ crap! Of course we were a band, there were four of us, we all contributed – but it’s my project and I wrote it. So… blah!”
Waters has been embroiled in a feud with his former bandmate Gilmour and Gilmour’s wife, novelist Polly Samson, after Samson publicly criticised Waters as an anti-Semite and a Putin apologist, among other claims. Rogers’ camp has since responded with a short statement calling Samson’s accusations “incendiary and wildly inaccurate”, adding that Rogers was seeking advice on the situation.
