Slash offers an update on the recording of Guns N’ Roses’ new album
Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has shared an update on the progress of the band’s new album.
Speaking to Sweetwater for the virtual edition of Gearfest, Slash said that he’s “been jamming with Duff and I’ve been jamming with Axl, and I’ve been doing stuff like that. So we’ve been getting some work done that way.”
He also noted that now recording these demos is his main focus, instead of his various collaborative projects: “I haven’t been doing much else. I haven’t been doing any collaborations with the odd artist and whatnot. I’m basically just focusing on writing new music and recording demos and recording guitar stuff for Guns.”
The update is a reassuring one since we last spoke to him, when he kept relatively tight-lipped about the new Guns N’ Roses, saying: “There’s been no definitive answer on anything and I’ll just keep to that. Stuff is happening, but there are no specifics. More than anything, it’s because of the nature of the industry right now. It’s just like, how do you want to do this? I mean there’s material and there’s recording and there’s shit going on, but we’re not really sure what we’re doing with it right now.”
Part of that uncertainty comes from the huge change in the industry since Slash last made a record with the band in 1993. There’s a handful people who said, ’Yeah, make a record and go old school’, he said, “and there’s a handful of people that are like, ’We don’t even know what buying a record is any more!’”
