This website is selling 100-200 items of Steve Albini’s belongings every Friday for the next year
A new website has been launched to sell the vast number of “treasures” amassed by the late Steve Albini during his lifetime.
The esteemed producer, who famously worked with Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and the Pixies died of a heart attack last year at the age of 61. His belongings are currently being sold by an “entity” called Steve Albini’s Closet, with all proceeds directed towards his estate.

Items from the first drop are currently sold out, but 100-200 more items are due to land each Friday across the year ahead. All items are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and prices are accessible too, with a large majority of listings sitting between $20-45.
Though currently there are no instruments or gear listed, the shop does sell a large portion of music in varying formats (CDs, records, cassettes), as well as zines and books, art, and plenty of other weird and wonderful goodies.
“Steve Albini’s Closet is an entity created to distribute the treasures amassed by the late polymath, Steve Albini. Steve pursued many fields of interest, and most of them are represented somewhere in his collections,” a message reads on the website.
“All items purchased are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the collection’s administrator, Byron Coley, and the proceeds are directed towards Steve’s estate. All materials are guaranteed authentic, and listings are updated on a weekly basis. Some items are sold through other sites like Discogs and eBay.”
Following Albini’s death in May last year, the surviving members of Nirvana publicly shared the letter that he sent to them prior to working on their In Utero album.
Within it, he wrote, “I’m only interested in working on records that legitimately reflect the band’s own perception of their music and existence… If you will commit yourselves to that as a tenet of the recording methodology, then I will bust my ass for you.”
He further stated, “I consider the band the most important thing. I do not consider it my place to tell you what to do or how to play. I’m quite willing to let my opinions be heard (if I think the band is making beautiful progress or a heaving mistake, I consider it part of my job to tell them) but if the band decides to pursue something, I’ll see that it gets done… I prefer to work on records that aspire to greater things, like originality, personality and enthusiasm.”
