This WWE wrestler just reworked his entrance song – with a little help from Tool’s Adam Jones

What with Machine Head’s Sail Into the Black soundtracking Wrestlemania 41 promo and Slayer’s Kerry King performing wrestler Damian Priest’s entrance song, WWE has been indulging in its fair share of metal as of late. Now, Tool’s Adam Jones is the latest to throw his own hat in the ring.
A beefed-up verison of WWE wrestler Pénta’s usual entrance theme, The Fire Is Coming, debuted on Monday. The Tool guitarist’s riffs certainly pack a punch; Monday Night RAW audiences were astonished by the intensified version, howling with excitement as the masked wrestler triumphantly approached the ring.

As Pénta prowls forward, flames blazing behind him, announcer Michael Cole informed viewers: “You’re hearing a new version of Pénta’s theme featuring one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Adam Jones from Grammy award-winning band Tool.”
Cole also takes a moment to praise Jones’ unique riffing skillset. “He’s using a specific playing technique that has been heard since the early ’90s and around the globe,” he says.

The recording of the Mexican wrestler’s entrance is currently the only version we have of the reworked track. However, it is expected to appear on streaming services soon.
Jones’ love of wrestling is no secret. Not only did he perform the American national anthem at WWE’s Summerslam in August 2011, but he also proposed to his wife Korin at the January 2013 Royal Rumble event.

Chief content officer of WWE, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, reflected on Jones’ Star-Spangled Banner performance in a 2020 interview with Metal Injection. “The funniest thing is that he wanted to do it… but he was so nervous,” he said. “He was like, ‘oh my God! I don’t get nervous at all for our concerts! I’ve never been this nervous to play my whole life!’”
“[Jones] sees wrestling as this crazy performance art,” Triple H explained. “To him, it’s not just the song. It’s the aura and the vibe – it’s everything.”

Triple H also shares his personal love of metal. And, considering he had Motörhead perform many of his own entrance themes, it hardly comes as a surprise. He was so close with the band that he even gave a eulogy at frontman Lemmy’s funeral in January 2016.
In terms of Tool, bassist Justin Chancellor told Metal Injection that the band will be writing new material before the summer.
“We’re gonna spend those few months really organising our ideas,” he revealed in February. “We already know what we like. We’ve all shared our individual ideas with each other, and we have a really good pile of stuff.”
