Watch previously unseen cut of the Rolling Stones’ first Sympathy For The Devil performance

Previously unreleased footage from the Rolling Stones’ first performance of Sympathy For The Devil has been uploaded online for the first time.
The footage, which was shot at the iconic Rock And Roll Circus gig in 1968, was meant to appear on the band’s 1996 concert film of the same name but ended up on the cutting room floor. At the time, the Stones’ lineup comprised Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Ian Stewart and Brian Jones.
The footage was published on ABKCO’s official YouTube Channel last Thursday (29 October). John Lennon also made a brief cameo appearance in the video (at the 4:54 mark). At the gig, the Beatle performed in the one-off supergroup The Dirty Mac, alongside Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Mitch Mitchell and Yoko Ono.
The Sympathy For The Devil performance is the latest in a series of archival material – spanning unearthed tracks to forgotten concert films – that the band has shared this year.
Back in July, the band shared Scarlet, a previously unpublished track featuring Jimmy Page. The song was included in the band’s 2020 reissue of their 1973 album Goats Head Soup.
In August, the band reissued their Steel Wheels Live concert film, which was originally broadcast as a pay-per-view show. The gig was shot at the 16,000 seat Convention Center in Atlantic City and featured cameos from the likes of John Lee Hooker and Axl Rose.
In more recent Rolling Stones news, Mick Jagger on Thursday (29 October) took a jab at US President Donald Trump with a teaser for new song entitled Pride Before A Fall, which was shared over Twitter.
