“We have talked at length about this”: Alex Lifeson is contemplating touring and playing live again – but not with Rush

Alex Lifeson is considering hitting the road again, but it won’t be with his Rush bandmate, Geddy Lee.
Rush said farewell back in 2015, and following drummer Neil Peart’s death in 2020, it became ever more apparent that they would not tour again. Aside from the odd charity gig or two – including one at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert – both Lifeson and Lee have preferred to leave their memories just as they are.

However, Lifeson is contemplating playing some live dates with his Envy Of None band, as the four-piece have just launched their second album, Stygian Wavz, and are yet to play any shows. The outfit was formed back in 2021, and sees vocalist Maiah Wynne, bassist Andy Curran, and keyboardist Alfio Annibalini join Lifeson.
Speaking to Eddie Trunk of Sirius XM (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Lifeson says, “We’ve talked about [touring]. I think having two albums now, giving us enough material to do a good show, like you could do a couple of hours in a nice theatre. We have talked at length about this.”

He goes on to add, “You have to have the support. And if the album does well, then it makes it much more realistic to put something together where you could do a residency or maybe a dozen dates or something. It’s not viable to do a one off or anything like that. So it’s a difficult thing. If you’re not going to play to a full house, it’s just not worth it at this stage, certainly for me.
“Maiah, the young artist, she’ll tour every day, two shows a day, you know, because it’s exciting for her, and it’s an opportunity, and it’s sort of a dream come true,” he shares. “I had the dream, and it was awesome, and I have great memories of that dream. And if we could do something that made sense, we would do it. But we wouldn’t just do it for the sake of doing it. That doesn’t really appeal to me, you know, after my history.”
Envy Of None’s second album, Stygian Wavz, is available to buy or stream now.
