How to repair binding on EVH/Axis model guitar

While making a body template I had an unfortunate mishap with the router bit which shaved off a small chunk of the binding on my 1991 EVH sig model. Ernie Ball tells me the binding from that era was done with liquid epoxy. I have to refinish the guitar anyway as it is pretty beat up. So to fix the gouge, I’m thinking I can sand the binding, save the dust from sanding said binding, and use the sanding dust to color some clear epoxy which I plan to use as a filler. Has anyone done this before?
