NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Days! NYNGD #2017-16
Welcome to Day 16 of my annual New Year’s New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!
Thanks for the kind words and comments on NYNGD #2017-15!
We’re approaching the end of the road on this year’s NYNGD. Sorry these aren’t coming faster, but I’ve had an ongoing cold and then 18″ of snow here in NY… Lots going on! But here we are at the second to last NYNGD of 2017!
Most of you have already seen today’s guitar! I’ll give you a hint: NAMM Pictures 2017 – from “The Room”! Courtesy of Pete Dubaldo! Yep, this guitar was in the secret room at the 2017 Winter NAMM, where most of the 2017-18 BFR run was displayed for dealers to order (and only order at NAMM — orders were closed after that). I am not sure if this scheme will become one of the Monthly BFR runs — I think maybe there’s a blurred out one in Feb 2018, but we’ll need to wait and see!
So, let’s dig in on her.
A Luke III BFR HH with burl maple top, an alder body, a roasted maple neck with a white bound rosewood fretboard. Sounds awesome. Looks K-I-L-L-E-R. Elegant looks, yet at the same time, if you look closer, over the top. I really love the burl maple top and hopefully you guys can get a good sense of the top from the photos. I know the photos are a little dark, but the guitar is, well… dark. And I didn’t want to change the brightness/contrast too much and misrepresent the guitar.
I picked this guitar up at the Philly Guitar Show in November. But I had already played it, as it was hanging in the conference room in SLO and I jammed it when I met up with Derek and Tomas for dinner back in March (I think).
I think you’ll all agree that this guitar deserves its place in the final group of NYNGDs, but how come it isn’t the Grand FinaleTM?!? What could be next?!? Time will tell, my friends. Time will tell.
I’ll be back tomorrow with another NYNGD: New Year’s New Guitar Day!
Thanks for looking everyone!

(The back story in case you’re new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I’ve done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date… So, as a fun holiday thing, let’s launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I’ve received PM’s about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. 🙂 The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)
(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas — these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house…)
