Question: Any ideas?

Doing some normal “new maintenance” on a Luke (G38717), took the neck off (which I had to pull straight up away from face/top of guitar) and had a hell of a time. Then I saw this:

Never seen these before. Any ideas? Definitely gonna make the neck joint a bit more solid (good or bad). Was these posts ever an option?
