Replacement pickups and Mods for Luke III HH?

Replacement pickups and Mods for Luke III HH?

Anyone replaced the Transition pickups in their Luke III?

I’m already using the Transition pickups in an alder/maple/rw strat and find that the neck has too much low end IMO compared to the bridge and other neck humbuckers. The neck pickup is really nice for sure and this results in great sounding inner and outer coil split sounds.
I currently use the neck pickup either split or in parallel for lead tones to avoid the lows that aren’t clear enough of the full humbucker IMO.

I’m receiving a Luke III BFR HH next week and I’m going to:
– mod the tone pot to a Push-push pot to have a split option (leaving the neck outer coil and bridge inner coil). A DTG mod (with resistors to ground) is also a nice option to try. I’ve never played a pickup that has a better split sound than the Transition neck TBH;
– Also considering to add a 4PDT that switches both HB from series to parallel to have an added silent brighter version of the pickups.

Another idea I have is to replace the neck Transition with a Thornbucker to have more clarity. I do think that the split of the Thornbucker is not as good as the transition. I already play a guitar with an SSV which I think is nice but not my favorite neck HB.

Curious which humbuckers you’ve tried?

Cheers,
Harry
