Gold Media to launch new acoustic guitar title

MIN’s publisher, Gold Media and Events, is expanding its growing media offering to the music trade with the launch of a digital title to serve the acoustic instrument market.

Publisher Neil Golding says: ‘Following the successful launch of Drummer’s Review last October, this seems to be the next logical step for us to make. Personally, I’m a great fan of acoustic music and have wanted to expand into this area for some time. The trade has been telling us for several years that its investment in print media is diminishing and that it is increasingly looking to online media for marketing. Our new venture, which we’ll reveal the title of in the near future, will be designed to deliver exactly what the trade says it wants: high quality review content with exceptional audio and video quality, coupled with literally up to the minute news and features with an affordable place to advertise to an audience that is no longer satisfied by expensive, out of date print media’.

The new online title will be edited by MIN’s veteran editor Gary Cooper, who says: ‘My experience with both print and online publishing has taught me that what musicians want is information that is bang up to date, not weeks behind the times, easy to get at and easy to digest. They don’t want to battle with formats, nor read pages of lifeless print – they just want to hear products well played and well recorded. And, of course, they want it instantly available across all platforms – mobiles, tablets, and laptops as well as desktops – and they want it for free. Who is going to pay £5 or more when so much is available today online, just for the asking?’

Ben Morgan – Brown to review all things acoustic

Contributors to the new title are already being lined-up and will be led by reviewer Ben Morgan-Brown. Already known to acoustic guitar makers and distributors, Ben spent a year at 18 working for his local guitar shop Coda Music, before going to Southampton Solent University to study Media and Journalism. After completing his studies he lived in London, playing in bands and working at the famous Tin Pan Alley Recording Studios in Denmark Street, before relocating to Devon in 2008. In 2010 Ben joined the team at Mansons Guitar Shop in Exeter, and spent the next seven years working his way up to Sales Manager and Acoustic Specialist, often being selected for further training and factory tours with companies such as Taylor, Fender and Martin.

Free to consumers online, GM’s new title is actively seeking review submissions from manufacturers and distributors now. Professionally produced and recorded reviews will appear both in the new title and on a dedicated YouTube channel and companies that have submitted products for review will be able to share them, without charge, on their own websites and social media.

To schedule acoustic products for review, or to discuss advertising opportunities, please contact publisher Neil Golding for further information. GM will also be in attendance at NAMM, so please contact Neil to have your latest acoustic product news published on the new site, along with relevant news shared with MIN.
