Former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick is recovering after successful heart surgery
Former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick says he recently underwent successful heart valve surgery, and is now in the process of recovery.
On 22 April, Kulick took to social media to share the news. “Heart valve surgery [was] a success!” an Instagram post reads. “On the road to recovery. Taking it one step at a time. Grateful for [my wife] Lisa, and all [my fans’] love and support.”

In the caption he added: “Special thanks to my hearts surgeon and staff for treating me like a rockstar!”

In light of the unexpected news, some were quick to assume the surgery was an ‘emergency’. To ease the minds of fans and news outlets, Kulick shared another update to clarify that it was a planned surgery to correct a birth defect. “Everybody – I’m doing great!” he writes on X, posing with his thumbs up. “This was NOT emergency surgery. An aortic birth defect caused a valve to become a danger.”
He clarifies that, 12 years ago, doctors discovered that he had a bicuspid aortic valve, a congenital heart problem that means an aortic valve has just two cusps instead of three. But the surgery should solve any further issues.

While fans are flooding Kulick with messages of support, there has also been word from one of Kulick’s former Kiss comrades. Kulick’s guitar skills blessed Kiss for 12 strong years, with his stint in the band spanning from 1984 til 1996, and ex-bandmate Gene Simmons made sure to shoot the axeman some well-wishes: “Go Bruce, Go! With Lisa by your side, you can lick anything. You know we’re all rooting for you.”
He even adds a cheeky final note acknowledging Kulick and his wife’s pancake recipe site. “Can’t wait for you and Lisa to cook up a new batch of pancakes for all of us,” Simmons says.
