Black Sabbath announce Black Lives Matter shirt for charity
Black Sabbath have announced a new ‘Black Lives Matter’ t-shirt design, fashioned after the typographic art style of their 1971 album, Master Of Reality. Proceeds from sales of the t-shirts through Sabbath’s online store will go towards the Black Lives Matter organisation.
The design draws inspiration from a t-shirt worn by Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello earlier this month (8 June) in an Instagram post with his mother.
“My 96 yr old mom has been a tireless advocate for Black Lives her whole life,” Morello wrote in the post’s caption. “Proud to stand with her today, as always, in solidarity in the fight for a more just and humane country & planet.”

My 96 yr old mom has been a tireless advocate for Black Lives her whole life. From being a foreign student advisor at the Univ. of Illinois, to teaching in Kenya and supporting the anti-colonial movement there, to teaching African Studies and bringing a radical perspective to a white conservative high school for 30 yrs, to being a member of the Illinois Urban League and campaigning for civil rights, to helping homeless African American men get their GED at the Salvation Army, to telling anybody who came at our family with any racist garbage to go straight to hell, to arming me with pride & confidence, to being a lifelong proponent of racial justice and ruthless critic of racist police. Proud to stand with her today, as always, in solidarity in the fight for a more just and humane country & planet. (Photo by Rhoads Morello)

Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler took notice of the post and stopped by to comment, “Nice shirt & nice sentiment & awesome mum.”
Earlier this year, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi helped raise over £19,000 for the UK’s NHS in a charity auction of several personal items – including one guitar.
Pre-orders for the t-shirt have begun at $25, check one out for yourself here.
