Heritage Guitars has added another model to its Custom Shop Core Collection range with the H-717 – a grand, archtop model with “unparalleled” acoustic resonance.
The model arrives just in time for the brand’s 40th anniversary, and joins Custom Core models like its H-555 or H-575 in continuing to champion traditional designs, with some added modern innovation. As always, the H-717 has been crafted at the brand’s Kalamazoo-based factory.

As for features, the H-717 offers a tone-tapped spruce top and highly figured maple back and sides, while its neck is a blend of maple and walnut, completed by an ebony fretboard. Heritage doesn’t hold back on boasting that this guitar has unmatched tone, which it says is further amplified with a Heritage Custom Shop floating pickup (handbuilt in-house), combined with a Schatten tone/volume control mounted on the pickguard for added tone-shaping capabilities.
A newly designed headstock is also introduced on this model, which is shaped to complement the grand scale of its jazzbox body, and a modern pickguard design helps to “enhance the instrument’s sophisticated aesthetic”. Nitrocellulose lacquer is used for the finishing, with a Honey Burst colour completing the body. Heritage says that this gloss will not only last, but will age well over time. Additionally, the H-717 also has a full-contact Ebony bridge, gold hardware, and comes with a Heritage Custom Shop hard case.

“We take great pride in our long history of crafting the finest American-made instruments out of Kalamazoo, Michigan and couldn’t be more grateful that our archtops have had the chance to share the stage with many of the world’s most respected artists and musicians,” comments David Nam Le, Managing Director of Vista Musical Instruments.
“The H-717 stands as a testament to advancing archtop excellence while embracing the spirit of continued innovation. We are thrilled to introduce a completely new, ultra-premium model with a modern sensibility, all while remaining true to the craftsmanship that has always defined us.”
The Core Collection H-717 is priced at $12,999 and is available to buy now directly via Heritage Guitars.
