Fender adds Flame Maple Top Chambered Tele to Rarities range
Fender has expanded its Rarities collection with the Flame Maple Top Chambered Telecaster. Like its three siblings, this limited-edition axe has exotic tonewoods, premium electronics and boutique appointments.
The highlight of this Tele is obviously its chambered two-piece alder body – designed to be both lightweight and resonant – as well as a natural flame maple top. For its neck, Fender has opted for a modern C-shaped maple neck styled with a classic black centre stripe. Rounding things out in the tonewoods department is a 9.5-inch-radius maple fingerboard.
The Chambered Tele sports a Tim Shaw-designed H-S pickup configuration, comprising a custom 50s vintage-style single-coil at the bridge and a ShawBucker 1T humbucker at the neck. In terms of tone, the neck pickup’s hotter single-coil sound complements the sweeter character of its bridge counterpart. And as for controls, this axe doesn’t stray from the Tele format, boasting a three-way pickup selector, a master volume control with treble bleed and a master tone control.
Elsewhere, the new Rarities member sports a vintage-style string-through Tele bridge that relies on three compensated steel saddles for accurate intonation. Vintage styling continues on the headstock, which boasts a set of staggered-height tuning machines.
Retails at $2,499.99. More info at fender.com.
