Guild launches the affordable Starfire I

Guild Guitars has launched the Starfire I, a more competitively-priced range of semi-hollow electrics.
The guitars are all loaded with Guild open-back 18:1 tuners, a two-piece tune-o-matic-style bridge (either hardtail or Guild’s Vibrato Tremolo).
Electronics-wise, the Starfire I models are loaded with two of Guild’s own HB-2 Alnico II humbuckers. For controls, there’s a three-way switch and individual volume and tones for each pickup. The tone knobs also allow each humbucker to be coil-split with a push-pull action.
The models, like the previous Starfires, are available in either single- or double-cutaway forms, with the single-cut sporting a sharp swoop on the lower horn, while the double-cut has a more traditional vintage outline. The finishes vary on the cutaway and tailpiece configuration, with the hardtail doublecut coming in cherry and the tremolo doublecut coming in Pelham Blue. The hardtail singlecut comes in Antique Burst, while the tremolo singlecut comes in either Seafoam Green or Snowcrest White.
The 22-fret thin U-profile neck sports a rosewood fretboard, and a 12” radius. The guitars feature many of the same design appointments as their standard-ranged alternatives – notable, given that these list for around a third of the price.
The list prices for the different cutaway, vibrato and finish colours are as follows:
Starfire I DC Cherry – £459
Starfire I DC GVT Pelham Blue – £549
Starfire I SC Antique Burst – £459
Starfire I SC GVT Seafoam Green – £549
Starfire I SC GVT Snowcrest White – £549
