Guitarist apologises after guitar-throwing stunt sends audience member to hospital
Japanese punk outfit Otoboke Beaver have apologised after guitarist Yoyoyoshie threw a guitar into the crowd at a show earlier this year, accidentally striking and injuring an audience member.
The incident happened during the band’s April show at Umeda Club Quattro in Osaka, Japan. The audience member was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for a forehead laceration requiring seven stitches, as well as a cervical sprain.

Otoboke Beaver addressed the incident publicly on 11 August, writing on Instagram that they “wish the injured person a full recovery” and acknowledging: “we caused this accident.”
Beyond the physical injuries, the band said the incident had also caused the fan “significant emotional distress”.
The group – comprising singer Accorinrin, guitarist Yoyoyoshie, bassist Hirochan and drummer Leo – also admit that their response in the aftermath was not as swift as it should have been.
“Coordination between us and the staff member entrusted to act as the point of contact that day, as well as our follow-up response, was not prompt, resulting in a delay to both our direct apology and public statement.”
They added that the apology was being made “in good faith” before concluding: “We are truly sorry.”
The Osaka show was a significant one for Otoboke Beaver beyond the incident, as it marked a farewell to former drummer Kahokiss, who stepped away from the band to go on maternity leave. She was subsequently replaced by Leo.
