“It’s the guitar I’ve dreamed of making for years”: Bring Me The Horizon’s Lee Malia partners with Jackson on new Pro Series signature, the LM-87

Jackson has tapped Bring Me The Horizon’s Lee Malia for a new Pro Series signature model, based on Charvel’s Surfcaster blueprint which debuted in the early ‘90s.
Based on Malia’s beloved custom shop model built by Jackson’s Mike Shannon, the LM-87 was made to the BMTH guitarist’s exacting specifications. It features a TOM-style bridge with an anchored tailpiece and fine tuners for extra stability when dabbling in those low tunings Bring Me fans will be all too familiar with.

Its Surfcaster body shape is made from a bound okoume body and neck, offering both a unique vintage appeal with more modern aesthetic.
The guitar also sports a unique three-ply pickguard, chrome hardware, a fast D-profile three-piece neck for “smooth riffing” across the length of its bound amaranth fingerboard.

In terms of electronics, the LM-87 is fitted with custom Jackson signature pickups, including a bridge humbucker with push-pull coil splitting functionality, for a versatile palette of tone-shaping options.
“I’m beyond excited to bring my Jackson LM-87 Surfcaster to life,” says Lee Malia. “It’s the guitar I’ve dreamed of making for years and we’ve made sure it’s super accessible for a wide range of players. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.”
“Lee’s guitar is a perfect example of a guitar that can do it all,” says Tim Hillier-Brook, Artist Marketing Manager of Jackson Guitars. “From heavy down-tuned riffs to glassy clean leads, the playability and versatility of this guitar matches the musical breadth of the band’s discography.”
In an exclusive upcoming interview with Guitar.com, Malia speaks on why he opted for a lightweight okoume body with an open-pore finish.
“Because our sets are getting longer, I’m wanting lighter guitars!” he says. “The open-pore finish as well, my whole thing is, I want it to wear fast. The ones I’ve been touring with are already starting to wear, and I want everyone to be able to relic the guitars quite fast. You know? It’ll be sick in like, a few years because every one is going to look different because of the wear. That was the whole thing of what I wanted it to be.”
