Jared Dines is auctioning off his 18-string djent monster
YouTuber Jared Dines has put his custom 18-string guitar up for auction. The enormous guitar debuted last year, and has since appeared in Dines’ Djent 2018 and Djent 2019 videos.
As you can see above, the guitar is playable – and actually quite versatile, just as capable of taking on extreme chugs as it is melodic tapping parts.
The phenomenal technical challenge of building it was taken on by Australian luthier Perry Ormsby, known for his high-end multi-scale guitars. The guitar features a stone plate (in case it didn’t look heavy enough), and a carbon-fibre headstock reinforcement plate to deal with the extreme string tension.
Fellow YouTuber Steve Terreberry will also be auctioning off his custom 20-string guitar, which appeared alongside the 18-string Ormsby in Djent 2019.
Dines’ jokingly expressed concern that no one would actually want the guitar – but fortunately, at the time of writing, the auction is sitting at $16,300 with 95 bids. The proceeds from the auction will put guitars in the hands of children who might otherwise not be able to afford them. The auction ends Monday 14 October.
The eBay page for the auction is here. Watch Dines’ video discussing the auction below:
