Les Paul’s one-of-a-kind Custom Shop 50th Anniversary model goes on sale
In 2002, Gibson gifted Les Paul a White Custom 50th Anniversary Les Paul to commemorate half a century of partnership. The exclusive axe has now been listed on Reverb by Paul’s longtime luthier and tech Tom Doyle.
This particular axe is noted to be a favourite of Les Paul’s – not only did he pose with it for the cover for his autobiography, he also often chose to play the white axe despite having a large trove of guitars. The instrument was also tweaked to the legendary inventor’s liking, boasting binding-less frets that hung slightly “over the binding on the neck”.
The White LP is being offered in a Collectors Package that comprises the guitar’s original case and the following memorabilia:
The original framed photo used for the autobiography*
A black custom pickguard*
Photo of Les Paul signing the pickguard
Historic promo photo of Les & Mary*
Photo of Les Paul and Paul McCartney*
Les Paul’s “Author’s Proof” copy of his autobiography featuring this guitar on the cover
*Signed by Les Paul

The asking price for the Collectors Package is $250,000, with 10% of the proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society.
