Liz Phair releases new song Good Side, from her next album due out in 2020
Yesterday, Liz Phair released the new song Good Side, from her seventh studio album due out next year. The track was produced by Brad Wood, who worked with the singer-songwriter on three previous albums, including her influential debut Exile In Guyville.
In an interview with Stereogum, which premiered the song, Phair revealed that she wrote Good Side this past spring. It was “the first song Brad and I latched onto during these recording sessions and the song that really set the production tone for the album”, she said. Click here to listen to the song.
Phair added that her decision to reunite with Wood – whom she hadn’t worked with for 20 years – was prompted by “the comprehensive and gorgeous reissue of my first record plus the Girly-Sound track”, which made her “nostalgic for the old days… I think I was curious to see what kind of music Brad and I (and [engineer and Exile In Guyville guitarist] Casey [Rice]) would make now, on the other side of our careers.”
The release of Good Side coincided with the release of Phair’s memoir Horror Stories yesterday. It’s part of a two-book deal the musician has with publisher Random House. The song also previews a new album, which Phair says will arrive in early spring. It comes a decade after her last record, Funstyle.
