“Makes me feel closer to Pop”: Watch Wolfgang Van Halen use Eddie’s Frankenstein guitar to record his new single
Wolfgang Van Halen has shared footage of himself using his father’s iconic Frankenstein guitar to record part of his new horror-themed single, The End.
In a video shared to Instagram, Wolfgang is captured using Eddie’s Frankenstein – the famous red, white, and black striped guitar that became synonymous with Van Halen – and in the caption, he notes that using it makes him feel “closer” to his beloved and well-missed “Pop”.

The single, released with his band Mammoth (which has recently lost its ‘WVH’ tag at the end of its name), features a rather wacky music video where the band seemingly trigger the crowd at one of their shows into turning into zombies, werewolves, and other savage creatures. It features a pretty impressive cast too, including the likes of Slash, Myles Kennedy, and even legendary actor Danny Trejo. Wolf’s mother and his wife also make guest appearances.
It wouldn’t be a Mammoth track without some Wolfgang wizardry on guitar of course, and there’s plenty of tapping featured throughout. The track also dazzles with a funky slap guitar part, for which Frankie comes to shine.
Wolfgang writes underneath his Instagram post, “Tracking the slap part of The End. Fun fact, I recorded the main tapping of the song, and the slap part with the Frankenstein! Makes me feel closer to Pop that such an important part of his history can live with mine every time I record.”

This isn’t the first instance of Wolf using his father’s guitars within his own music, as he’s previously used the Frankenstein on various tracks across both Mammoth albums released so far, including songs like Take A Bow from Mammoth II and Feel from their debut album, Mammoth.
