Orange launches the Acoustic Pedal, a preamp stompbox perfect for gigging
Orange Amplification has announced a new preamp for acoustic players, entitled the Acoustic Pedal. The unit is a stompbox-sized preamp designed for live playing and recording, as well as easy use when integrated into a larger chain of effects.
The pedal itself has quarter-inch jacks for input and output, as well as the buffered effects loop. This, combined with the pedal’s high-headroom JFET amplification, means that integrating the Acoustic Pedal into a full pedalboard shouldn’t introduce any impedance or clipping issues. For easy connection to a mixing desk or recording interface, there’s a balanced XLR output, which can be phase inverted with the push of a button on the top of the unit.
Knobs allow for adjustment of volume, bass, treble and midrange. For eliminating feedback at volume, there’s a notch filter with controls for the frequency of the notch and its width.
All of this is housed in a footswitch-less metal enclosure, and powered by an 18v centre-positive supply, meaning it’s not compatible with standard pedal power.
See Orange’s Ade Emsley introduce the pedal below. It’s available now for $169 – you can find out more at orangeamps.com.
