The video features the trio, comprising Molly Miller on guitar, Jennifer Condos on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums.
The video’s director Craig Newman said of the visuals and how they set out to reflect the sonics of the track: “We wanted the music and image to feed each other, capturing a slice of California cool – cutting across eras and evoking a timeless vibe. Over the Fence is an experience – exuberant, nostalgic, groovy – and when it ends, it all feels too soon.”
Miller added: “I knew once Craig started to discuss the music video, he was the right fit for the project. He understood what the music was about – he got the vibe and the purpose. I was hesitant to do a video because I had never done anything of this nature. I’ve only been a guitarist in videos, never the focus. But I am so proud of it.”
We spoke to Miller about St George last month. She told us of Over The Fence specifically: “This song is a nod to Booker T & the MG’s. Groove. Vibe. Timelessness. Jen and her friend Thomas Juliano wrote the song together. Jen sent me a demo and then the trio reimagined the song. My favourite part of Over The Fence is the drum and bass breakdown. I could live in that groove.
“All of the improvisation on this record is over changes, chords moving. This one is all one chord though. We are creating a story with just one chord. It’s all about how we interact together – we listen, we build, and then we explode. This one is a ton of fun to play live!”
