The Cure’s Robert Smith confirms a 2020 album release
The Cure’s Robert Smith says the fans will ‘definitely’ get a new album from the band this year.
Smith confirmed the news at the NME Awards 2020, where the band walked away with the Best Festival Headliner award. In an interview after the show, he said the first of three upcoming records is almost ready. “The first one will definitely be out soon, we’re wrapping it up now and it’s going to be mixed. But until it’s completed, no one will believe me,” he said. “I look forward to it coming out more than anyone else, trust me!”
Smith also expressed gratitude for the award, and what it means for The Cure to receive the accolade. “Thank you very much. I dressed up for this. It means a lot getting an award like this, winning a live award. Thank you very much to the NME for this. We had the most fun ever last year and I’m very happy to be the singer in The Cure right now,” he said.
Last August, Smith auctioned off his personal signature guitar, the Schecter Robert Smith UltraCure, which he played during the Pasadena Daydream Festival. All of the proceeds were pledged to charities like Free Arts For Abused Children, Inner-City Arts, Little Kids Rock, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation and The Painted Turtle.
