The Archon is a two-channel tube amplifier powered by six JJ Electronic ECC83S preamp tubes and two 6CA7 power tubes. The latter is said to help deliver smooth tops and a tight bottom-end.
If you’re familiar with the Archon amplifiers, you’ll likely associate it with modern high-gain tones, but PRS claims the amp can deliver rich cleans as well, with enough headroom to function as an effective pedal platform amp.
Guitar signals pass through five gain stages before hitting the master volume. Both Lead and Clean channels also feature their own tone stack EQ controls, bright switch, as well as volume and master knobs. Meanwhile, global controls include presence and depth parameters.
The combo edition of the Archon comes in a 1×12 configuration loaded with a Celestion V-Type 70W speaker, while matching cabinets – also equipped with a Celestion V-Type in either 1×12 or 2×12 configurations – can be purchased for the amp head version.
Doug Sewall, Amp Designer at PRS, explained that when the company set out to reissue the Archon, it did so with clear goals in mind.
“Reissuing a historically successful amplifier always has a unique set of challenges,” he said in a statement. “Our goals with the Archon were clear: adjust the gain controls on the lead channel to allow for a wider array of rock tones, retain and enhance the stellar crystal-clear tones of the clean channel, and design it to provide maximum value.”

The PRS Archon combo and head are available for pre-order at $1,199 and $999, respectively. PRS hasn’t revealed a release date.
