“The three of us were just oozing with enthusiasm”: Alex Lifeson recently jammed with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo
Apparently, Geddy Lee isn’t the only one Alex Lifeson’s been making noise with lately. The Rush guitarist recently revealed he spent a memorable evening jamming with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, calling the experience “just unbelievable”.
Speaking in a recent conversation with Pete Pardo of Sea Of Tranquility, Lifeson opens up about the impromptu session, which took place at his home in Toronto just last week.

“The guys from Metallica were in [Toronto] last week. And I got together with Kirk [Hammett] and Rob [Robert Trujillo],” says the guitarist [via Blabbermouth]. “We went out for dinner and then we got together and jammed afterwards – actually, right here [at my house]. They came over after dinner and we played for a few hours, and it was great.”
“Often in the past, if you jam with a bunch of people, we’d play a 12-bar bluesy thing; everybody can play that: ‘Let’s do that.’ But when you play with great musicians like those guys are, the places you go is, it’s just unbelievable.”
“It’s so remarkable,” Lifeson adds. “And God, I loved every second that we did that. The three of us just were oozing with enthusiasm, that whole thing. And that’s pretty cool.”
The recent years have seen Lifeson living life at his own pace. Last month, the musician revealed that he’s considering hitting the road again – not with his Rush bandmate Geddy Lee – but with his Envy Of None band, who earlier this year released their second album, Stygian Wavz.
“We’ve talked about [touring],” Lifeson told Eddie Trunk of Sirius XM (via Ultimate Classic Rock). “I think having two albums now, giving us enough material to do a good show, like you could do a couple of hours in a nice theatre. We have talked at length about this.”
