“There’s no bashing… there’s just truth” Marty Friedman will open up on his time in Megadeth in new book
Marty Friedman’s upcoming biography Dreaming Japanese will offer the answers to “a lot of unanswered Megadeth questions”, amongst other things, says the artist.
Speaking about his forthcoming book and the very important era of his music career it delves into on a recent episode of the Talk Louder podcast, Friedman assures fans that there’s “absolutely no sourness” as far as his former band is concerned.
On the contrary, he is “incredibly proud of all of that time in Megadeth” and everything they accomplished back then.

“I would hate for people to think that I have any negative feelings towards that era, because it’s absolutely not true,” Friedman says [via Blabbermouth]. “Some of my favourite music that I’ve made in my career was done in that period of time.”
The guitarist says of his legacy with the group: “What Megadeth did for my career, it was absolutely my first step into the real world of the music business and how incredibly grateful I am for that opportunity.”
“There’s absolutely no sourness related to Megadeth at all. There’s absolutely no negative feelings, and none of that. So there’s no kind of bashing; there’s no negativity. There’s just truth. All the things are exactly from my eyes, how it happened, how I wrote it.”
The book will also shed light on Megadeth’s creative process, one that Friedman notes is unique to the band.
“I really enjoyed outlining exactly the process, how all that music got created, how it got made, how it got put down to tape. It was a definite process, and it was a process that was only — only Megadeth did this one process,” says Friedman. “In all the projects and bands and artists I’ve worked with and all the albums I’ve made on my own, before and since, Megadeth had a unique process of making music, and I got into great detail of what that meant to me and how it worked for me and all that stuff.”
He continues: “I think people are gonna be really genuinely surprised at the clarity of detail in the Megadeth times because it’s not something that I’ve talked about since I left the band… Just a lot of things that don’t get talked about and that I really never had an opportunity to bring to light. A lot of good things.”
Dreaming Japanese will arrive on 3 December via Permuted Press.
